Arnold Schwarzenegger Today: At 79, the Action Legend Is Entering Another New Chapter

At 79 years old, Arnold Schwarzenegger continues to prove that retirement is not part of his vocabulary.

The legendary bodybuilder, Hollywood action star and former governor of California remains active in entertainment, fitness and writing. Now, Schwarzenegger is preparing for several new projects that show he is still willing to reinvent himself decades after becoming one of the most recognizable stars in the world.

One of the biggest developments came in October 2026, when it was announced that Schwarzenegger is teaming up with bestselling author James Patterson for a new novel titled The Protector.

The project represents a significant first for Schwarzenegger: it will be his debut as a fiction novelist.

The story centers on Father Viktor Brennan, a Catholic priest and military veteran in Los Angeles who finds himself confronting criminals threatening his community. As Brennan fights to protect the people around him, his actions begin revealing secrets connected to his own mysterious past.

The Protector is scheduled to be released on October 4, 2027.

Arnold Is Returning to the Movies

Schwarzenegger is also preparing for a highly anticipated return to the big screen with The Man with the Bag.

The Christmas action-comedy features Schwarzenegger in an unexpected role — Santa Claus.

In the story, Santa’s magical bag is stolen, threatening Christmas. He turns to a thief named Vance, played by Alan Ritchson, for help recovering it.

The film combines comedy, action and holiday adventure and also features Awkwafina, Ken Jeong, Jane Krakowski, Liza Koshy and Kyle Mooney.

The Man with the Bag is scheduled to premiere worldwide on Prime Video on December 2, 2026.

The project is especially significant because it marks Schwarzenegger’s first feature-film release since Terminator: Dark Fate in 2019.

Still Focused on Fitness at 79

Even after decades of bodybuilding and several health challenges over the years, fitness remains an important part of Schwarzenegger’s life.

He celebrated his 79th birthday in July 2026 by continuing to promote exercise and strength training. His official website also recently announced another book, Better Every Day: An Action Plan for a Full Life, scheduled to arrive in January.

Schwarzenegger continues to use his Pump Club platform to encourage people to exercise, eat well and build sustainable habits.

His philosophy appears to be less about perfection and more about consistency. During his recent trip to Oktoberfest in Munich, he spoke about enjoying traditional foods and drinks while maintaining healthy routines in everyday life.

A Familiar Face at Oktoberfest

In September, Schwarzenegger returned to Munich’s Oktoberfest, where the Austrian-born star once again attracted plenty of attention.

The 79-year-old even stepped in front of the band and conducted music at the Marstall festival tent.

He attended the celebration with his longtime partner, Heather Milligan.

The appearance was another reminder that Schwarzenegger continues to maintain a busy public life well into his late 70s.

Family Remains Important

Schwarzenegger has also recently been seen spending time with his family.

A family photograph shared in 2026 showed him together with his former wife, Maria Shriver, and several of their children. Although Schwarzenegger and Shriver separated years ago and finalized their divorce in 2021, they have continued to maintain a relationship centered around their family.

The former couple share four children: Katherine, Christina, Patrick and Christopher.

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Next Chapter

Few public figures have reinvented themselves as many times as Arnold Schwarzenegger.

He arrived in America as an ambitious young bodybuilder and became a seven-time Mr. Olympia champion. He then transformed himself into one of Hollywood’s biggest action stars through movies including Conan the Barbarian, The Terminator, Predator, Total Recall and Terminator 2: Judgment Day.

He later entered politics and served as governor of California from 2003 to 2011.

Now, at 79, Schwarzenegger is adding another title to that extraordinary résumé: fiction novelist.

With The Man with the Bag arriving in December, a new motivational book on the way and The Protector scheduled for 2027, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s career is clearly not finished.

For someone whose most famous line is “I’ll be back,” Schwarzenegger continues to find new ways to make that promise true.
